The Alleghany Highlands
Part of the Allegheny Front, which Virginia shares with Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, where it goes on as Cumberland & the Allegheny Front, Altoona, Johnstown & the Alleghenies, Canaan Valley, Blackwater Falls & the Potomac Highlands and Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob & the South Branch.
The western highlands join Lake Moomaw, Douthat and Highland's maple valleys.
Oak, maple, hickory, birch and beech colour the ridges and river valleys.
