Part of the Allegheny Front, which Pennsylvania shares with Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, where it goes on as Cumberland & the Allegheny Front, the Alleghany Highlands, Canaan Valley, Blackwater Falls & the Potomac Highlands and Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob & the South Branch.
The Allegheny Front links Altoona and Johnstown to upland forest and valley gaps.
Maple, oak, hickory, birch and beech colour the ridges, gorges and wooded river slopes.
