Lake Guntersville & Sand Mountain
Part of the Cumberland Plateau, which Alabama shares with Kentucky and Tennessee, where it goes on as Lake Cumberland & the Big South Fork, Red River Gorge & the Kentucky River headwaters and Crossville & the Cumberland Plateau, and in one more part of Tennessee.
Beyond Lake Guntersville, plateau roads reach the coves and cliffs of the northeast corner.
Oak and hickory cover the plateau, with maple and sourwood in sheltered coves.
