Oconee, Pickens & the Blue Ridge escarpment
Part of the Blue Ridge, which South Carolina shares with Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia, where it goes on as Blue Ridge, Ellijay & the apple country, Blairsville, Dahlonega & the high mountains and Rabun, Tallulah Gorge & the northeastern mountains, and in two more parts of Tennessee and Virginia.
South Carolina's mountain corner contains the escarpment's waterfalls and the Jocassee foothills.
Maple, sourwood and hickory bring reds and gold to the escarpment's wooded slopes in October, with oak often turning later around the lower lakes.
