Part of the Missouri River Valley, which North Dakota shares with Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota, where it goes on as Atchison & the Missouri River hills, St. Joseph & the northwest river bluffs and Columbia & the Boonslick, and in seven more parts of Missouri, Nebraska and South Dakota.
The Missouri runs between Bismarck and Mandan through wooded bottoms and rolling southern prairie.
Cottonwood and boxelder turn gold along the Missouri and its tributaries.
