Virginia

Fredericksburg, the Northern Neck & the Chesapeake

Part of the Chesapeake Bay, which Virginia shares with Maryland, where it goes on as Annapolis & the western Chesapeake, Southern Maryland & the lower Potomac, Chestertown, Elkton & the upper Eastern Shore and Easton, St Michaels & the Choptank.

The Rappahannock crossings connect Fredericksburg with the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.

Red maple and sweetgum brighten the tidal river woods before the oaks finish along the peninsulas, though color here usually comes later than in the Blue Ridge. By Autumn Guide’s estimates ↗ the color here is at its best around now, in late October.
